Fourteen swimmers from Luxembourg have competed and set records in the Masters World Championships in Budapest these past weeks.

After the elite swimmers fought for titles and medals in Budapest, the Masters World Championships took place at the same location just two weeks later from 7 to 20 August 2017.

More than 10,000 age-class athletes competed in the areas of open-water swimming, synchronised swimming, water rides, water ball and pool swimming for best times and records.

14 Masters swimmers from the FLNS Swimming Luxembourg federation, Cercle de Natation Dudelange and the Swimming Club le Dauphin Ettelbrück represented the Grand Duchy in the freshwater swimming pools at Lake Balaton and the basin swimming in Budapest.

The open-water floats made up over 3 and 2.4 kilometres respectively- shortened due to the weather conditions- in Lake Balaton. In 23rd place, Gilles Degrott (CNDu) was the best place in the class 25 with a time of 47:59.10 minutes over 2.4 kilometres.

The subsequent swimming contests were carried out in four pools at the same time in order to cope with the onslaught of reports. Once again, the Luxembourg Masters were in top shape and set no less than eleven new Luxembourg Masters records. The best placement was achieved by Oldie Patrick Juncker from the SL who placed 8th in the age class 50 over 200m chest stroke in 2:46.73 minutes.

In the women’s races, Carole Kettenmeier-Reuland of the SCDE won the 5th place in age class 35 over 400m with a time of 5:40.40 minutes.
