After last week's events led by Greenpeace activists which exposed security risks at the nuclear power plant Cattenom just across the French border, French authorities organised an emergency exercise on Tuesday 17 October.
Similar emergency exercises are carried out regulary with the cooperation of the four cross-border countries which would all be affected in case of a real catastrophe at the power plant. The aim of this particular drill was to test out the necessary communicative exchanges between France, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium that would need to occur in light of an emergency situation.
The Luxembourgish crisis unit for a nuclear emergency united the High Commissioner for National Protection (HCPN), the Service for Crisis Communication (SCC), the Division of Radiation Protection from the Department of Health (DRP) and the Administration of Emercency Services (ASS).
