Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced that it has been informed by the French authorities that a 34 year-old Luxembourg citizen is among the people who were wounded in the knife attack yesterday evening in the centre of Paris.

The incident happened on Saturday evening shortly before 21:00 near the Opera House and theatre district of France's capital. A knifeman killed one person, a 29 year-old man, and injured four others, one of them critically, before being shot dead by police.

French police revealed that the knifeman was born in 1997 in the Chechnya region of Russia, and shouted “Allahu akbar (God is greatest)” during the incident.

The Luxembourg citizen was treated urgently and he is no longer in danger. The Luxembourg Embassy in Paris is following the situation on the ground and is available to assist the victim and his family.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack via its Amaq news agency.
