Minister Jean Asselborn;
Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced that its minister, Jean Asselborn, has summonsed the Israeli ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg.
Following what was described as unacceptable violence recently committed in the Gaza Strip, Minister Asselborn decided to call the Israeli ambassador to the Ministry in Luxembourg.
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has expressed its displeasure against what it has described as disproportionate use of force against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, which left more than 50 dead and hundreds wounded on 14 May 2018, and the public comments made in this regard by the Israeli ambassador.
The statement read "Luxembourg strongly condemns the disproportionate use of force against civilians and calls for an independent international investigation. Everything must be done to prevent further acts of violence."
Minister Asselborn has joined calls from the international community, including the appeal of the UN Secretary-General, to ensure that actors on the ground and officials in the region show calm and restraint in order to avoid a new situation of eruption of violence and any other action that would only distance the prospect of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
