Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, has communicated that in connection with the exceptional situation of the arrival of the ship "Lifeline", with 235 migrants on board, in the port from Valletta, on Wednesday 27 June 2018, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has expressed its solidarity with the Republic of Malta by proposing to relocate, on an ad hoc basis, 15 people who have been on board the "Lifeline".

Those who will be relocated are applicants for international protection who clearly need international protection.

Representatives of the Immigration Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs traveled to Valletta on 1 July 2018 to cooperate with the Maltese authorities in organising the relocation of 15 people to Luxembourg.
