Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, is currently attending the World Economic forum (WEF) for the fifth time in Davos from 22 - 24 February, Switzerland, where he is meeting with economic, political and social decision-makers.

On Tuesday 22 January 2019, Prime Minister Bettel had a meeting with Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region. During the meeting, the Prime Minister discussed the bilateral relations between Hong Kong and Luxembourg and the opportunities to boost them, particularly in the green finance sector, where Luxembourg is one of the world leaders.

PM Bettel also met Bill Gates, one of the founders of Microsoft and chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to discuss cooperation opportunities between the foundation and Luxembourg in development cooperation. "The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Luxembourg share the same values ​​and pursue the same goals," said the Prime Minister during the meeting. "Gathering our resources in certain areas such as the 2030 Agenda or telemedicine can only be beneficial for the target populations."

In a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, the two counterparts recalled that there are many convergences between New Zealand and Luxembourg. It was agreed to strengthen ties between the two nations and begin negotiations for a non-double taxation agreement, which would better exploit the potential for trade.
PM Bettel also met Dan Schulman, President and CEO of PayPal, for an exchange on opportunities in the FinTech and online payment business.

He will continue his meetings with economic, political and social decision-makers until Thursday.
