Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection has announced that a case of paramyxovirosis (Newcastle disease, a type of bird flu) has been detected in a flock of poultry owned by a non-professional in Luxembourg.

The disease is a highly contagious viral infection; however, it is safe for humans even if they eat eggs or meat.

Since the origin of the poultry is a market abroad, breeders are reminded that they need to obtain from poultry keepers guaranteeing a correct sanitary condition of their animals. In addition, imported live poultry must be accompanied by a valid health certificate.
