That China plays an increasingly important role in the wine sector, proves among others that, as part of the 25th anniversary of one of the most prestigious wine competitions, namely the "Brussels World Competition" has chosen Beijing as a place. China is today according to the statistics of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), the second largest country in the world with respect to vineyards with 847,000 hectares, behind Spain and ahead of France. In terms of wine consumption, it ranks fifth behind the United States, France, Italy and Germany, and fourth in terms of imports worldwide.

In Beijing, more than 330 journalists, sommeliers, oenologists and traders tasted 9,200 wines and sparkling wines from 48 different countries. Among them were also 20 samples of wines and cremants from Luxembourg. At the announcement of the results a great satisfaction was felt at Domaines Vinsmoselle, Caves Berna and Caves Saint-Remy - Desom whose wines and cremants were awarded silver, gold and "grand" gold medals.

The silver medals were awarded to the Auxerrois Bech-Kleinmacher Naumberg GPC of the Vinsmoselle estates and the Crémant Brut from the Berna Caves, Ahn. Particularly impressive were the sparkling wines from the Saint-Remy-Desom Cellars, whose 2014 Crémant Millésime won a gold medal and the Crémant Desom Brut Elegance was even awarded with a grand gold medal.

The next edition of the Brussels World Competition will be held in Aigle, Switzerland.
