Luxembourg has introduced a new training programme aimed at reducing food waste.

As part of the national pact against food waste, Luxembourg Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection Fernand Etgen has signed two collaboration agreements with companies specialising in the fields of food safety and waste. These agreements are aimed at setting up specialised training as well as collecting and sharing information on best practices.

The training entitled "Fight against food waste: What can our municipality do?" was developed by CELICO in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection. The new module will be made available to municipal staff by the National Institute of Public Administration from Autumn 2018. The schedule of training sessions financially supported by the Ministry and also addressed to private stakeholders will be published on the national anti-food waste website www.antigaspi.lu.

Similarly, the purpose of an agreement signed with SIGNA is the analysis of the data collected on the actions of the municipalities that are members of the national solidarity pact against food waste. The measurable impact of the actions carried out as well as the exchange between peers, the disclosure and support of the implementation of the best national and international practices in collaboration with municipal officials. Indeed, Fernand Etgen is featured among the municipalities signatories of the "Antigaspi" Pact, launched in late 2016 between 80 municipalities and training institutions.

In this context, a letter will be sent to the Luxembourgish municipalities to inform them of this aid which will be available from the start of the school year.
