As part of the European Capital of Culture 2016, two Luxembourg artists will be presenting a project entitled "ORANGERY" on Wednesday 14 June 2016.
For the European Capital of Culture 2016, which this year is Wroclaw, glass artists Anne-Claude Jeitz and Alain Calliste, under the supervision of curator Krzystof Kucharczyk, were asked to perform a three month artists residency in partnership with Polish artist Barbara Idzikowska. Assistants in the form of the best students from the glass section of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw also lended a hand to the project.
"ORANGERY" is formed of 28 glass segments, each representing different facets of European identity and together forming an orange. The number of slices corresponds to each of the EU Member States and their potential arrangements will refer to issues related to the notions of "part" and "whole" or "autonomy" and "community".
The project will be exhibited for three weeks at the Academy in Wroclaw, before heading to the Old Mine Science and Art Centre in Walbrzych. Here in the Grand Duchy, "ORANGERY" will be displayed in the great hall of the European Court of Auditors for a month in October, before being presented at Cannenbuch Castle in the Netherlands, for an exhibition between 5 and 20 November 2016. Exhibitions in Germany, France, Belgium and Poland are also planned.
