Design Friends has organised a conference entitled ‘Kiki van Eijk- The joy of a playing child’ for Wednesday 23 November 2016 in MUDAM, starting at 18:30.
The non-profit association has announced their second conference of the season to be hosted by Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk. The presentation will deal with the process of the creation of objects and furniture beautified by the artisan craft.
A graduate of the Design Academy of Eindhoven, Kiki can Eijk became famous for her unusual works which charm with their original forms and the variety of materials used. These creations do not follow the trends of the moment and connect craft and individual creativity, which has notably charmed the most renowned galleries and editors.
At the beginning of her career, Kiki van Eijk got noticed for ‘Kiki Carpet’, a traditional knitted carpet reproduced on a large scale. Amongst her other creations are lamps, ceramics and textiles which mix ancient and new techniques, and in which one finds similarities to the imaginary worlds of Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland.
Since then, Kiki van Eijk has been presenting her work in galleries and museums across Europe and the world. She has also appeared in articles in Wallpaper, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and New York Times, to name but a few.
For the upcoming conference, Design Friends has published a monographic catalogue with an exclusive interview with the designer.
The conference will be in English and takes place on 23 November 2016 in MUDAM (3, Park Drai Eechelen, L-1499 Luxembourg).
The event is free of charge,
