Cercle Cité Ratskeller to host Minute Papillon Exhibition

The Cercle Cité on Place d'Armes in Luxembourg city centre will host a new exhibition entitled "Minute Papillon" in the Rastskeller from 28 September to 4 November.

"Minute Papillon" is the first major exhibition dedicated to Florence Doléac, artist and internationally renowned designer. Its perforated tables, its languid seats and its masked lighting, breathe a fantastic air into the domestic universe. For more than twenty years, she has produced objects that are sometimes functional, often useless and sometimes fleeting, which arise unexpectedly, as if to stop the passage of time.

"My creations have no meaning in series. What I like is to participate in the construction of a collective imagination" she said. Initially active within the group Radi Designers (from 1993 to 2003), Florence Doléac chose to get out of the constraints related to industrial production by developing a teaching activity, first at ECAL (Lausanne, Switzerland  in 1999, then at ENSAD / National School of Decorative Arts (Paris). In the early 1990s, her early work led her to collaborate with a medical research laboratory. Then she worked with specialists of all kinds, researchers, artists, scientists and artisans, whose exchanges allowed her to develop her aesthetic at once rough, synthetic and whimsical. Using the quotation and the hijacking of objects, Florence Doléac tinkers in her workshop with minor proposals. She explores the possibilities of transforming industrial materials and their recycling, associates herself with artisans with traditional know-how (Vallauris ceramics, Kyrgyzstan tapestry ...) and negotiates, for each piece, the invention of new forms or the non -voluntary intervention.

Free guided tours are given each Saturday at 15:00, in different languages; those in English will happen on 6 October, 13 October and 27 October.
