The works of Canadian artist Philippe Hamelin will be on display at the Black Box at Casino Luxembourg from 30 January to 25 February 2019.

The exhibition entitled "Carnations" brings together a series of synthetic animations developed since 2012 through which the artist questions the ambiguous relationship between the real, the living and the numerically constructed.

Textured models of the human or animal form, sometimes interrupted by geometric shapes or by video-captured scenes, create worlds of disturbing strangeness. It emanates experiences whose emotional quality is both intimate and external.

Philippe Hamelin, who lives and works in Montreal, Canada, holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Concordia University and a diploma in Film Studies from the Université de Montréal. His works have been shown at numerous festivals, in Canada and abroad. In 2015, he received the prize for the best art and experimental film awarded by Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma and Centre PRIM. Working first in animation and drawing on his training in film studies, Philippe Hamelin combines the plasticity of 3D modeling with cinematographic techniques of editing, shooting and framing in order to stage unstable associations and juxtapositions.

The exhibition, curated by Michèle Thériault, is organised in collaboration with the Leonard & Bina Ellen Gallery at Concordia University, Montreal.
