The cities of Luxembourg and Saarbrücken (Germany) have joined forces to relaunch a new, slightly adapted edition of the cross-border project ARTMIX in 2023/2024.

The City of Luxembourg recalled in a press release that Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture and the City of Saarbrücken had organised the ARTMIX artist residency between 2005 and 2019, "in the spirit of intercultural cooperation" between Luxembourg and Saarland (Germany) and in order to facilitate exchange between the cultural scenes of the Greater Region. Eventually, the project could no longer take place for various reasons. However, the cities of Luxembourg and Saarbrücken have now teamed up to relaunch a new biannual edition of the cross-border project and thus continue to give the opportunity to visual artists and curators from Luxembourg and Germany to initiate joint projects through artistic exchange and to get to know neighbouring art scenes and exhibition venues.

In order to revive ARTMIX and create new synergies, the Cercle Cité, Abbaye de Neumünster (neimënster), Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain, the City of Luxembourg and the City of Saarbrücken are jointly supporting this project, alongside the participating artists (mostly students).

Throughout the project, from the application phase from August to October 2023 until the exhibitions in spring 2024, participants will be accompanied by the teams of the partner cultural institutions and the Casino Luxembourg team will implement a framework networking programme allowing emerging artists to come into contact with professionals in the artistic sector. A jury of experts will then select a Luxembourgish artist, a German artist and a curator or a curatorial team (from the applications received) who will ultimately participate in artist residencies in neimënster in Luxembourg-Grund and the Stadtgalerie in Saarbrücken and will set up a joint exhibition project at the Ratskeller of the Cercle Cité and at the Stadtgalerie in Saarbrücken in summer 2024.

Artists and curators with a link to these regions are eligible to submit their application (without restriction of age or nationality) by email: artmix@saarbruecken.de. The deadline is 2 October 2023; successful applicants will receive a positive response by the end of October at the latest. Applicants must submit the following documents: a one-page motivation letter; a CV with their artistic and professional background; an artistic/curatorial portfolio. A concept proposal for the artist residency is optional. Candidates are also asked to indicate their language skills in their application.
