A project between the Air Navigation Administration (ANA) and the Ministry of Sustainable Development of Luxembourg could see the Grand Duchy's TMA airspace relocated to foreign service provider Belgocontrol.
The detailed project began in June 2015, whilst a decision is due to be announced in early 2016.
The Luxembourg Approach Controllers Association (LACA), affiliated to the CGFP and a representative of the Luxembourg air traffic control radar, today came forward in opposition to the project, claiming that the plan would mean the Grand Duchy relinquishing all control of its national airspace.
LACA, which controls all international flights and trajectories towards Luxembourg Airport, condemned the relocation of the Luxembourg airspace to BELGOCONTROL and the privatisation of the air traffic control radar service, stating that technical and operational skills in this emerging field would be lost and that operational decisions would be taken abroad.
LACA continued that the project was expensive and brought no added value to Luxembourg in return. A decision is expected for the beginning of 2016.
