Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection and Ministry of Health have announced that all meat products traced back to a particular abattoir in Belgium have been withdrawn from sale in the Grand Duchy.
The move follows the announcement that a case of fraud has been detected at the abattoir where date stamps were changed on certain meat products.
The Luxembourg authorities has received a list of products incriminated by this fraud and which were delivered to several points of sale in Luxembourg. All products have been removed from sale. The products currently affected by this fraud are beef tails and minced meat.
In addition, several supermarket chains in Luxembourg have preventively withdrawn all products traced back to this Belgian establishment as a precautionary principle. According to the information received from the Belgian authorities, there is no identified risk for public health at this time.
