This afternoon, on 13 March 2018, the Belgian authorities confirmed that all products from the Veviba Bastogne abattoir delivered to Luxembourg are to be considered fraudulent.
The move follows the announcement made earlier this week by the Luxembourg Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection and Ministry of Health that all meat products traced back to this abattoir in Belgium have been withdrawn from sale in the Grand Duchy.
It was through the European Commission’s “Food Fraud” system that Belgian authorities warned of the potentially suspicious or fraudulent nature of all products coming from the abattoir Veviba Bastogne.
The incident stems back to the discovery that date stamps had been changed on certain meat products in the abattoir in question.
Several supermarket chains in Luxembourg have already preventively withdrawn all products traced back to this Belgian establishment as a precautionary principle. However, it is advised that any remaining products be removed from shelves.
