On Wednesday night, a farmhouse in Daehlerbaach suffered a serious fire.

Shortly after midnight, a neighbour reported the fire and said that flames were coming through the roof of the farmhouse. The sole resident was awakened by the sounds of the blaze and was able to leave the building in time.

A short time later, units from the volunteer fire department from Goesdorf and Wiltz arrived at the scene and proceeded to tackle the blaze.

Around 04:30 the attic of the barn and an adjoining building had collapsed and the fire was not yet extinguished because straw bales in the barn were helping sustain the fire.

Since arson can not be ruled out, the public prosecutor was informed. The police detectives from the forensics service were summonsed to the site for the purpose of securing evidence.

By 07:00, most of the firefighting was completed; however, one fire brigade unit remained as there was still a risk that some straw bales could re-ignite. Some smoke was still coming from the building. An attempt was being made to remove the remaining straw bales.
