On Wednesday, 25 April 2018, Luxembourg's Environment Minister, Carole Dieschbourg, and Interior Minister, Dan Kersch, presented the network of four "Wëlldéier Drop-off" centres, such as Drop-off in Junglinster, located in at the Fire and Rescue Centre.

To date, only the Drop-off Wülldéier at the Wildlife Care Centre in Dudelange (CSD) exists as a temporary shelter for wildlife outside of CSD opening hours.

At the beginning of the peak season, it seems essential to facilitate access to a health centre throughout the country by setting up three additional Drop-offs in order to support the activities of the CSD, which is managed by natur & ëmwelt, contracted with the Department of the Environment.

Through the Ministry of the Interior, rescue services will be involved in the management of wild animals in distress. As a result, it was decided to place the three additional containers at the Junglinster and Clervaux rescue and response centres, and also at the Niederfeulen National School of Fire and Rescue.

As part of the implementation of the containers, the respective responsibilities in the management of wild animals in distress and to raise public awareness are also clarified. The Department of the Environment and the Health Centre, in close consultation with all stakeholders, have developed a flyer and poster for the public, as well as a detailed brochure in French and German. These documents, which are inspired by the most common situations, will serve as a guide and allow everyone to intervene quickly and correctly if presented with a situation concerning an animal in distress.
