The Franco-Luxemburgish common customs control has seized 56kg of drugs during an inspection in Dudelange-Zoufftgen.

Under the cross-border cooperation agreement of 26 January 2016, concluded between the Luxembourg and French customs, customs administrations periodically organise joint controls on the Luxembourg and French territories while pooling their means of control.

The inspection organised on 16 May 2018 in Dudelange-Zoufftgen enabled the two customs to detect, by means of the Mobile X-ray Scanner of the Luxembourg Customs and Excise Administration, drugs transported on board a refrigerated lorry.

It was around 11:00 that the French customs officers stopped the semi-trailer registered in Spain to carry out together with their Luxembourg colleagues a control of the lorry and the transported goods. The driver, a Romanian national, said he was in charge of taking vegetables from Spain to Denmark.

With the use of the X-ray, the Luxembourg customs officials have identified, in addition to the declared goods, several large hidden bags containing a significant amount of cannabis weighing 56.850 kg.

The merchandise value of this drug is estimated at €500,000 on the black market.
