On Thursday 17 May 2018, the first meeting of the new board of directors of the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) took place.

On the basis of Article 12 of the law of 27 March 2018 on the organisation of civil security, the Government in Council appointed, on 30 March 2018, the administrators, representatives of the State and representatives of the communes. These included Alain Becker as Chair and Lydie Polfer as Vice Chair of the Board for a three-year term.

Moreover, the members representing the State appointed on the proposal of the Ministers of the respective jurisdictions were as follows:

- Members proposed by the Minister in charge of Emergency Services: Alain Becker, first government adviser, and Patricia Vilar, attaché.

- Members proposed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs in his attributions: Laurent Deville, first government adviser, and Clara Muller, councillor.

- Member proposed by the Minister in charge of Finance: Jean Olinger, first inspector of finance.

- Member proposed by the Minister in charge of Health: Laurent Zanotelli, councillor.

- Member proposed by the Minister responsible for Transport: Marc Reiter, attaché.

- Member proposed by the Minister responsible for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action: Florence Ensch, counsellor of legation.

Meanwhile, the members representing the municipalities shall be appointed on the basis of a direct voting procedure by the members of the municipal councils. Until the completion of this voting procedure, Syvicol proposed the first eight members of the board of directors from the communal sector: Michel Malherbe, Central rescue zone; Lydie Polfer, Central rescue zone (City of Luxembourg); Jean-Marie Sadler, Eastern rescue zone; Pierre Zahlen, Eastern rescue zone; Marcel Agnes, Northern rescue zone; Fränk Arndt, Northern rescue zone; Pierre Mellina, Southern rescue zone; Michel Wolter, Southern rescue zone.

Finally, those permitted to attend Board meetings in an advisory capacity were announced as: Dr. Philippe Welter, representative of the SAMU; Marc Mamer, representative of the National Federation of Firefighters; Roland Disiviscour, representative of the volunteer firefighters; Frank Hermes, representing young firefighters. In addition, two staff representatives who will be determined on the basis of an ad hoc voting procedure will be able to attend in this capacity.

Furthermore, at its first meeting, the Board approved the CGDIS budget for the second half of the current year, decided on the first CGDIS organisation chart and appointed Erny Kirsch as an expert on the Board of Directors.
