A total of 139 applications for international protection were received in Luxembourg last month.

May 2018 saw the submission of 139 applications for asylum to the Luxembourg Department of Immigration. This represents a slight increase in the number of applications received in March and April 2018 (132 each) but the figure remains lower than the 199 applications received in May 2017.

The majority of the asylum applications last month came from people leaving Syria (17), followed by Macedonia (15), Afghanistan (14) and Iraq (12). Applications mainly came from the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa, with only one coming from Colombia on the American continent.

The total number of applications for 2018 so far is 699.
