Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener;

On Thursday 19 July 2018, Luxembourg's Ministry of Economy announced €60 million to support the tourism sector from 2018 to 2022.

Since 1973, the government's tourism policy has been based on the implementation of successive multi-year plans which have made it possible to create or improve tourist infrastructures in the Grand Duchy. The draft law implementing the 10th Five-Year Plan for Tourism Infrastructure Equipment was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies on 19 July 2018. It takes into account the needs of the tourism sector and is in line with the "Tourism 2022" strategy of the Ministry of the Economy which formulates the way in which Luxembourg wishes to position itself as a quality and diversified tourist destination.

The 10th Five-Year Plan allows the Ministry of the Economy to subsidise projects in the interest of tourism of municipalities, trade unions and non-profit associations, thus contributing to developing the tourism offer of the country. Covering the period from 2018 to 2022, the new plan provides a budget of €60 million which corresponds to a 33% increase over the 9th five-year plan.

Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, welcomed the unanimous vote by the Chamber of Deputies of the draft law and stated: "The five-year plan for tourism allows us to ensure the long-term dynamise and development tourism sector in Luxembourg. Thanks to the budget of €60 million, we will be able to support tourism investments in line with our "Tourism 2022" strategy and in favour of sustainable and quality tourism in the Grand Duchy."
