A man was arrested on Thursday night in relation to the stabbing incident that took place yesterday in Luxembourg. 

Last night at 23:00, a man was stabbed in front of a social institution on Route de Thionville in Luxembourg City. The incident, resulting from a confrontation between two people, left the victim bleeding from his wounds near the roadside.

The attacker escaped, but was followed by eyewitnesses and immediately detained by the police. The prosecution then ordered the perpetrator's arrest and he was brought to the examining magistrate this morning regarding placement in pre-trial detention.

The arrest comes following riots which broke out just after three in the morning on Wednesday 18 June on Rue de Brill in Esch-sur-Alzette, during which three men were injured, one suffering from knife wounds to the neck. The incident unfolded when two of the victim's companions were denied access to a nightclub and reacted aggressively. The victim stepped in to protect two other female companions when he was stabbed in the neck. and punched with a wooden staff by the two men. After first aid, the he was taken to the hospital.

By order of the prosecutor's office, the two men were arrested and the weapons confiscated. The detainees were taken to the penal facility in Schrassig and were presented to the examining magistrate on Thursday afternoon. On the prosecutor's orders, one of the men was put on remand, the other released.
