A total of 238 applications for international protection were received in Luxembourg last month.

July 2018 saw the submission of 238 applications for asylum to the Luxembourg Department of Immigration. This represents a significant increase in the number of applications received in June (151) and May (139) this year. The figure also represents an increase from the 159 applications received in July 2017.

The majority of the asylum applications last month came from people leaving Eritrea (49), followed by Iraq (33) and Afghanistan (20). Applications mainly came from the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa, with only four coming from the American continent- one from Nicaragua and three from Venezuela.

The total number of applications for 2018 so far is 1,088.
