The Luxembourg Minsitry of Health and Cactus Group have launched a new healthy eating campaign entitled "Wat iesse mer?" (What are we eating?).

The new campaign, presented this week by Health Minister Lydia Mutsch and Cactus Group Managing Director Laurent Schonckert, aims to raise awareness among consumers of all ages and from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.

Collaboration with Cactus supermarkets allows to establish a direct contact with the consumer, to motivate him to review his eating habits, to guide him in his choice of food and to give him the means to make healthy choices.

The campaign "Wat iesse mer?" is part of the health component of the new GIMB Interministerial National Action Plan "Gesond iessen, Mei bewegen" (Eat healthily, move more) 2018-2025, set up by the Ministries of Health, Sports, National Education and Family, with the main objective of combating the growing problem of obesity and sedentary lifestyle in the general population, especially among children and adolescents.

Since obesity is also linked to a low consumption of fruit and vegetables, the first part of the new campaign places a special emphasis on nutritional values and the important role of these food groups in the prevention of many illnesses. By highlighting fruit and vegetables, the campaign includes several long-term actions, such as a seasonal calendar, the dissemination of the "Gesond iessen, Méi bewegen" messages and recipes in C-News magazine online and the Cactus application, as well as 18 "Wat iesse mer?" TV programmes launched in October on RTL Telé Lëtzebuerg, cooking workshops in Cactus Kachatelier, a Yuppi calendar for children and an exhibition at the Belle Etoile.
