On Friday 14 September 2018, a total of 27 soldiers were sworn in to the Luxembourg Army at a ceremony held at the Kinneksbond campus in Mamer.

The 31st Recruit Session was held in the presence of Luxembourg's Secretary of State for Defense, Francine Closener: the 27 volunteer soldiers included four of Portuguese nationality, one of French nationality and one of Dutch nationality. This ceremony marks for volunteers the completion of the four-month basic training. This phase is intended to prepare recruits for their military training, which continues for 36 months. Out of a total of 45 recruits, 27 successfully completed basic training, corresponding to a success rate of 60%.

On the occasion of this ceremony, a medal of recognition was awarded to members of the Luxembourg contingents deployed during the years 2017 and 2018 in Kosovo, Mali, Lithuania and Afghanistan, as well as to a foreign military member.
