On 21 September 2018, Luxembourg Environmental Administration agents carried out road checks on heavy goods vehicles on the N3 in Frisange.

The checks, carried out in collaboration with the Grand Ducal Police, focused on the cross-border transport of waste (transport of substances or goods that are no longer suitable for their initial use). Special attention was given to the necessary authorisations and accompanying documents required under European law for the transport of such goods across borders.

A total of 12 offences in the areas of load security, social regulation, mobile phone use and lack of accompanying documentation were sanctioned and enforced.

The purpose of these controls is to ensure the prevention and detection of illicit transfers, ensure the proper management of hazardous waste, and thus reduce the movement of hazardous waste to a minimum, and optimise waste treatment processes.

Waste transfer controls may include document inspection, confirmation of identity and, if necessary, physical or chemical control of the waste.
