The Luxembourg food authorities have been alerted via the European Early Warning System (RASFF) of a high content of Aflatoxins and Ochratoxin A in Seeberger popcorn.

Aflatoxins are mycotoxins (toxins) produced by certain species of Aspergillus mold that develop when temperatures and humidity are high. Aflatoxins are considered genotoxic and carcinogenic by the European Food Safety Authority and can be dangerous if consumed often and in large quantities. 

Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by mould that can be present in various products such as cereals, coffee, rice and raisins. Repeated consumption of ochratoxin A is also harmful to health.

The product in question was withdrawn from Delhaize, Cactus and Massen stores in Luxembourg, but some of the product was already sold. As such, the Luxembourg Food Safety Authorities recommend that consumers no longer consume the following product: 500g packs of Seeberger brand Popcorn Corn with the expiry date 01/31/2020. The lot numbers concerned are L435136, L437019, L437018, L435137.

Only the above product with the stated expiry date and lot numbers is affected.
