On Friday 28 September 2018, the Syndicat intercommunal de dépollution des eaux de l'eaux de l'Est (SIDEST) celebrated the inauguration of the new regional sewage treatment plant in Grevenmacher.
The ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures, François Bausch, and the Minister of the Environment, Carole Dieschbourg.

The SIDEST Wastewater Association is an inter-municipal association that today comprises a total of 23 member municipalities: Beaufort, Bech, Berdorf, Betzdorf, Biwer, Bous, Contern, Dalheim, Echternach, Flaxweiler, Grevenmacher , Lenningen, Mertert, Mondorf -les-Bains, Niederanven, Sandweiler, Schengen, Schuttrange, Stadtbredimus, Waldbillig, Waldbredimus, Weiler-la-Tour and Wormeldange. The municipalities of Frisange and Manternach are currently still in the accession procedure.
As the main mission, SIDEST has to collect and purify the wastewater accumulated in the above-mentioned member municipalities outside the localities, so that no untreated water is introduced into adjacent streams and rivers. In order to fulfill this mission, it requires a lot of experience and very specific knowledge in the field of wastewater management, from bodyshell to the commissioning of technically demanding equipment.
