European spruce bark beetle;

Following the hot weather and the exceptional drought of this summer, the population of the European spruce bark beetle have experienced a significant proliferation in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg as in the rest of central Europe.

As a result, forest owners need to be more vigilant about the current situation in order to limit the proliferation of the insect and damage in their forests.

Symptoms of the beetle's presence are penetration holes, resin flow, sawdust on bark, bark detachment with gaps under the bark (end of insect development, imminent or completed departure) and blushing of the crown (often well after the insects have left).

Details on prevention and measures to be taken, please consult the technical note on the European Spruce Bark Beetle (typographer) which is available in French and German on www.emwelt.lu, or contact the Forest and Nature Administration.
