Fathers Against Discrimination (FAD) has launched a petition calling for the introduction of parental sharing into Luxembourg divorce legislation.

FAD has described itself as a platform aimed at preventing the institutional discrimination of fathers in Luxembourg courts and thus stopping gender inequality whilst protecting children's rights in the Grand Duchy.

In 2015, the European Council voted on Resolution 2079 initiated by Françoise Hetto-Gaasch, Luxembourg Parliament member (CSV), calling all EU member states to introduce parental sharing of responsibilities for children as a base for divorce law and children custody proceedings. However, the Parliament has still not voted on the resolution.

In response, the non-profit organisation FAD has started a petition - which has already reached over 200 signatures (at the time of writing) - calling for the introduction of parent sharing, ie shared custody in divorce cases, as opposed to the current tendency of Luxembourg courts to assign single custody of a child to one of their parents.

Whilst FAD specifically aims to prevent the discrimination of men and fathers wishing to play an active part in their children's lives, even after a divorce, the organisation has assured that it does not intend to target mothers or woment in general, but rather wishes to prevent the violation of the rights of either parent.
