Luxembourg today published a commemorative brochure to mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On 10 December 1948, after the Second World War, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, the Luxembourg Ministry of National Education, Childhood and Youth, in collaboration with the Consultative Commission on Human Rights of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, has published the brochure: "70 years: Universal Declaration of Human Rights". Published in pocket format, it cites the text of the declaration in 5 languages (Luxembourgish, German, French, English and Portuguese) and will be distributed to all secondary school pupils.

With the distribution of this booklet, high school students can learn about their rights and freedoms, including the right to education, work, an adequate standard of living and freedom of thought or opinion. The booklet recalls the importance of values such as justice, peace and sharing, but also tolerance and friendship, values that are constantly challenged in a world in which, according to the ministry, many countries continue to disregard fundamental human rights.

On this occasion, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn also gave a speech, in which he expressed his pride at Luxmebourg being one of the founding signatories of this declaration and emphasised its continued importance in these challenging times.

The publication of a brochure for pupils in primary education is planned for early 2019.
