The Luxembourg Institute for Standardisation, Accreditation, Safety and Quality of Products and Services (ILNAS) has published a guide for the purchase and use of fireworks.

The guide outlines the main information that can help consumers as they buy and use fireworks as the holiday season approaches.

The main injuries that can result from improper use or handling of these items are burns on the hands, face and eyes. The sound of explosions can also cause the perforation of the eardrums. In extreme cases, the explosion can even cause severe trauma to the extremities, especially the hands. In the European Union, 70% of the victims are young people under 24 years old.
