At its meeting on Friday 11 January 2019, the cabinet of the Luxembourg government agreed the addition of two days annual holiday for all employees in the Grand Duchy.

The two days have been proposed in the Programme of Government and will result in the amendment of the texts in Articles L. 232-2 and L. 233-4 of the Labour Code, as well as Article 28-1 of the amended law of 16 April 1979 and the draft Grand-Ducal Regulation amending the amended Grand-Ducal Regulation of 21 October 1987 concerning the working time and holidays for municipal officials.

The amendments proposed by this bill are intended to declare Europe Day, i.e. 9 May, a legal holiday and to increase the current 25-day statutory holiday to 26 days a year for private sector employees and state officials.

As far as municipal officials are concerned, the adaptation of legal texts will be effected by an amendment to the amended Grand-Ducal Regulation of 21 October 1987 concerning working time and holidays for municipal officials.
