A genetic analysis on traces believed to have been left by a wolf in the west of Luxembourg has yielded no conclusive results.

On 16 December 2018, there was a concrete indication of the presence of a wolf in Koerich-Simmern. Traces of a large canine measuring around 400 metres were found in a forest area in the snow. Even a urine sample could be ensured.

However, the Senckenberg Institute in Gelnhausen (Germany) today announced that the genetic analysis of the urine sample has not led to any conclusive results. This was because there was too little genetic material. The case is therefore classified as a C3 unconfirmed clue, which means that the presence of the wolf can neither be confirmed nor ruled out.

It should be remembered that all indications of the presence of wolves should be reported immediately to the nature administration via email wolf@anf.etat.lu.
