Luxembourgish artist Armand Strainchamps has passed away aged 68.

Among those mourning the death of the Dudelange artist is the Luxembourg Film Fund, which issued a statement in response to the news on the evening of Thursday 23 November 2023.

"It is with deep dismay that we learn of the death of Armand Strainchamps, a multi-talented artist known for his paintings and sculptures but also in cinema where he worked as a producer, screenwriter and director," the statement read.

In addition to his work as an artist - his murals adorn the ceiling of the entrance hall of Luxembourg Railway Station -, his contribution to the world of culture includes having worked with Luxembourgish director Andy Bausch on the 1988 film Troublemaker and having produced several of his own documentaries, including Diddeleng - 100 Joër, 100 Gesiichter (Dudelange - 100 years, 100 faces). The film, detailing the history of his hometown, received the Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis (Luxembourg Film Award) in 2009.

Commenting on his death, Film Fund Luxembourg said Armand Strainchamps has left "a big void in the world of national cinema", and it sent its "sincere condolences" to his family and loved ones.

Other cultural institutions and individuals took to social media to mourn this loss and express their condolences in light of his passing.
