The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) has reported that a fire broke out at the Kronospan site in the Gadderscheier industrial zone in Sanem on Sunday 5 May 2024.

At 14:40 on Sunday, the CSU 112 emergency rescue centre was alerted to an industrial building fire at the site of the manufacturing company in question. A factory intervention team initially attempted to put out the fire but, by the time the first CGDIS units had arrived, the fire had spread from the hall to neighbouring facilities.

At 18:00, the fire was brought "completely under control", but teams remained on-site to ensure that all the residue of the fire was extinguished.

The CGDIS added that two employees had been "slightly" injured in the fire and were taken to hospital; two other employees received medical care from CGDIS teams on-site.

A total of 80 firefighters from seven fire and rescue centres (CIS) were deployed as well as the reconnaissance and intervention group in dangerous environments (GRIMP), the operational technological support group (GATO) and the logistics support centre (CSL). Furthermore, the operations management centre (CGO) was activated to support the relief operations commander.

The CGDIS also noted that the mayor of the municipality of Sanem as well as agents from the Water Management Authority (AGE) and CREOS visited the site.
