On Friday 15 September 2017, at the Prince Henri Sports Center in Walferdange, the Luxembourg Army conducted their 28th recruiting session and the swearing-in of 30 volunteer soldiers, in the presence of Luxembourg's Secretary of Defense Francine Closener.

Of the 30 new recruits sworn in, seven were of Portuguese nationality, one of Italian nationality and one of French nationality; two women were sworn in from the 30.

This ceremony marks the completion of four months of basic training for candidates. This phase aims to prepare recruits for their military training, which continues for 36 months. Out of a total of 56 recruits, 30 successfully completed basic training, corresponding to a success rate of 53.57%.

In her speech, Secretary of State Closener said "The thousands of visitors last July during the open door event to the military centre testify to the Luxembourg's attachment to the army. This close relationship stems from the deep recognition for the work and the year-long efforts of the military and civilian personnel of the army, both nationally and internationally. I am convinced that this affinity between the army and Luxembourg society will increase, especially with the projects related to the modernisation of the army, which will benefit the entire population."

During this ceremony, a recognition medal was awarded to the Luxembourg members of the KFOR 51 contingents and the European Training Mission in Mali.
