Luxembourg Minister for Equal Opportunities Lydia Mutsch today presented the main characteristics of the government’s strategy “Changez de perspective”, aimed at countering gender stereotypes.

The government strategy entitled “Changez de perspective” (or “change your perspective”) has been developed to dispel ever-existing perceived gender stereotypes concerning different roles and professions in Luxembourgish society.

In this context, Minister Lydia Mutsch highlighted that the still widespread perceptions in society of what is supposed to be a "typical" profession- even "atypical"- for a woman or a man continue to have a great influence on society, especially young people.

Indeed, children are often confronted with gender stereotypes at an early age. To counter this, the Ministry for Equal Opportunities launched a series of PIXI booklets for children in 2017. Lydia Mutsch today presented the second booklet in this series, which deals precisely with vocational guidance, free from any limited vision by preconceptions about "masculine" or "feminine" professions.

Moreover, the ministry has set the agenda for International Women's Day (8 March) under the theme of combating prejudices underlying inequalities between men and women. In this context, students from the Grand Duchy will be able to register to participate in thematic workshops organised in a high school in Luxembourg City on this occasion.

Likewise, Lydia Mutsch presented the Ministry of Equal Opportunities' new awareness and information campaign to challenge gender stereotypes in society. The campaign will, in the coming months, use symbolism to show the binding and harmful effects of stereotypes, through various means of diffusion and publication as well as at several activities planned by the ministry throughout 2018.
