On Monday 7 November 2016, a team of six students from the University of Luxembourg won the Feed Your Brain Now debate “Should the EU be the next US?” held in the university’s Maison du Savoir on the Belval campus.

Earlier this week, the University of Luxembourg held its first-ever student debate as part of its Feed Your Brain Now series. The question debated was “Should the EU be the next US?” Two teams of six students, one from Miami University and the other from the University of Luxembourg itself, competed for the chance to be the first-time winners.

After having had their positions chosen at random on the day, Miami University debated for the statement whilst the University of Luxembourg fought against it.

In the end, the competition was very close and the winning team, University of Luxembourg, was chosen by a panel of judges from the USA, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, for their rhetoric, interaction, humour and the credibility of their arguments. The winners Sven Schmeler, Johannes Heuschkel, Michel Verhasselt, Theresa Sauerwein, Greta Szendrei and Jazmin Campbell were awarded the Feed Your Brain Now trophy and all participants received a certificate for participation.

The next Feed Your Brain Now debate is being organised for March 2017.
