The fifth edition of the Rotary Clubs of Luxembourg’s Espoir pour la tête initiative has received cheques for a total amount of €60,000.

For the 5th consecutive year, the Espoir en tête initiative, initiated by the Rotary Clubs of Luxembourg, has collected donations by organising special previews in the Utopolis / Kinepolis cinemas.

This year set a new record, reeling in more than 5,000 spectators, proceeds from which have contributed to research on the brain in Luxembourg.

The new Disney film, "Beauty and the Beast", was on display on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March 2017. €8 out of €15 from each place sold were donated to research on brain diseases in Luxembourg. Whilst in 2016, the film "The Jungle Book" had been able to set a record audience by attracting more than 4,150 spectators, this year the results were even more remarkable. In total, more than 5,000 people showed up upon the Rotary Clubs of Luxembourg’s invitation, allowing them once again to contribute to research on brain with cheques worth a total of €60,000.

Contributions will go towards two fundamental projects: the first studies the dysfunction of brain immunity in Alzheimer's disease, using a donation of €35,000. It is a collaboration between Dr. David Bouvier and Dr. Alexander Skupin of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg as well as Prof. Dr. Michel Mittelbronn of the LNS (Luxembourg Center of Neuropathology); the second project, supported by a donation of €25,000, concerns the molecular heterogeneity of the microglia. This is a collaboration between the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) and Dr. Alessandro Michelucci. Simone Niclou with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB).
