Projects are wanted for the first edition of the "Tourism Innovation Award" dedicated to tourism in Luxembourg.

As part of the national strategy "Tourism 2022" to develop the tourism sector by 2022, the Ministry of Economy has launched a call for projects from SMEs for the "Tourism Innovation Award 2018" which is aimed at professionals of the tourism, hotel and restaurant sector, but also to any SME in a different sector of activity, provided that the innovative project adds value to tourism and its customers.

The Tourism Innovation Award aims to showcase innovation in the sector and to reward a particularly innovative idea. A project is a product or service (or a combination of both) that is new to the business and is either already available to customers or is in the final stage of development.

For its first edition, the Tourism Innovation Award has two categories. The "Smart Tourism" category targets projects relating to the personalisation of information, open-source solutions, data protection, virtual reality, 3D visualisation, geocoding Internet of Things, etc. The Circular Economy and Sustainable Tourism category favours projects in the context of optimising the flow of resources and materials, the efficiency of resources, the sharing economy, ecotourism, the protection of the environment, the preservation of natural resources, etc.

Each category has a prize of €15,000 which will be awarded by a dedicated jury. The laureates will also receive support from Luxinnovation for the implementation or development of the winning project. In addition to the awards in both categories, the "Tourism Innovation Award 2018" is complemented by a "Public Prize" which is also endowed with €15,000 euros. In addition, participation in the "Tourism Innovation Award 2018" offers companies the opportunity to benefit from the media coverage of the event and to highlight their sense of innovation to current and potential customers.

Companies can submit their projects until 12 June 2018 via the website www.tourisminnovation.lu. The public will then be invited to vote on the site for their preferred project from 2 July to 7 September 2018.
