The animated feature film "The Breadwinner" directed by Nora Twomey and co-produced by Melusine Productions (Stéphan Roelants) at Studio 352 in Contern has been selected for the Oscar for Best Animated Film by the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Cinema.

The film is a co-production between Melusine Productions and Studio 352 (Luxembourg), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland) and Aircraft Pictures (Canada) in partnership with producer Angelina Jolie.

After the Oscar for Best Animated Short in 2014 for "Mr Hublot" (Zeilt Productions), this is the third Oscar nomination for the Luxembourgish company Melusine Productions after "Ernest and Celestine" and "Song of the Sea".

Guy Daleiden, Director of Film Fund Luxembourg, stated "The year 2018 looks promising for Luxembourgish cinema with the nomination of The Breadwinner at the Oscars, the selections of co-productions Croc-Blanc (Bidibul Productions) at Sundance, Gutland (Les Films Fauves) at both the Max Ophüls Preis and at Rotterdam, Black 47 (Samsa Film) and Bad Banks (Iris Productions) at the Berlinale. These multiple international selections underline that the significant efforts made by Film Fund Luxembourg in the development of the audiovisual sector definitely produce results."
