St George’s community group, the Friends of St George’s, raised a total of €5,100 through community events at St George’s International school; this amount was then generously matched by Awesome Cause Foundation making the total raised €10,200.

The money will go towards Suubi Community Projects Uganda, a non-profit based organisation that has been supported by parents from St George’s for several years; the aim of this initiative is to support St. Mary’s Kabawaala Infant School, also known as the Lauren Patterson Memorial School Uganda. Lauren was a lovely young woman who worked at St George’s before she worked in Qatar where she was tragically murdered. Her family are still fighting for justice after already attending many court hearings.

The money they raise gives hope to fellow Ugandan parents by helping them pay school fees for children in need, sponsoring children, setting up commercial projects for the parents and so much more. The money raised this time has enabled the construction of a permanent classroom block.

Suubi Community projects Uganda wrote: "I write to express our sincere appreciations for your support towards the construction of a permanent Classroom block... Lauren Patterson Memorial School currently has a population of 350 children, all in the age bracket of 4 years to 12 years. The major challenge of the school has been/is lack of enough classrooms. Children had to either learn under tree shades, or in temporary mud structures. Funds that were raised by Friends of St George’s and matched by Awesome Cause Foundation, have been used to construct a 3 classroom permanent block. As I write, the children are very happy using the classrooms."

"St George’s International School can’t thank Friends of St George’s enough for all their hard work fundraising these past months, the school is also extremely grateful for the generous support of Awesome Cause Foundation, a charity that helps provide children growing up in poor areas a better start".

The foundation seeks to raise awareness about real needs in today's world by giving the initiative of doubling money raised for important causes.
