Luxembourg's Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider, and the President of the Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg NGO, Jean-Louis Zeien, met with the students of École Sainte-Anne and their 400 Fairtrade polo shirts on Place Clairefontaine.

As part of the "Rethink Your Clothes" campaign (launched by the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg and the Caritas Luxembourg Foundation with the financial support of the Directorate for Development Cooperation) with the aim of raising awareness of social issues in the Luxembourg public and environmental aspects of the textile industry, students of the École Sainte-Anne have showed the right way: there are concrete alternatives regarding clothing that meet the criteria of fair and ecological trade.
400 custom polo shirts, certified Fairtrade and organic, were ordered by the school. This is a record for Luxembourg for Fairtrade-certified apparel: students support workers' rights, protect the environment and contribute to a more just and equitable world.

About 60 million people work in the textile industry, especially in developing countries. However, this industry poses very high risks of human rights violations, exploitation of children and often has a negative impact on the environment.

"Certified as a Fairtrade School since 2010, our school proves that our purchases are consistent with our day-to-day commitment to greater equity in global commerce," said the school principal, Georges Kayser.

Minister Romain Schneider explained that he appreciates this initiative of the school and joined the students and the president of the Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg NGO Jean-Louis Zeien on Place Clairefontaine, to present and promote a more responsible consumption.
