The Luxembourg Cancer Foundation has presented a cheque for €792,591 to the Neurosurgery Department of the CHL.

As part of its commitment to supporting research on brain tumours, the Cancer Foundation, represented by its president, Dr. Carlo Bock, and director, Lucienne Thommes,  yesterday gave the cheque to neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Frank Hertel, in the presence of Dr. Romain Nati, general manager of the CHL.

The Cancer Foundation has thus contributed to the funding of innovative research project "Integrated Imaging and Data Management for Neurosurgical Neurooncology" of the CHL's national Neurosurgery Department. This research work on brain tumors will be conducted in collaboration with LCSB Interventional Neuroscience Group, LIH and the Department of Neuropathology of the LNS. The research team will use these funds to examine whether the advanced imaging techniques are sufficient to perform intraoperative resection checks and make diagnoses.

Clinical researchers in neurosurgery and neuropathology work in close collaboration with computer scientists and neuroscientists. New scientific discoveries are expected as well as translational approaches (preclinical research translated into clinical development) directly applicable in clinic.
