Caritas Luxembourg has launched a public appeal for donations to help victims of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique.

Thousands of people have lost everything as a result of the cyclone, which developed earlier this month. According to Caritas Luxembourg, people in Mozambique currently need, above all, clean water, food, temporary shelter and medicine.

With the reality of the risk of epidemics and meteorologists having announced new rains in the coming days, Caritas is currently organising with its local partners the distribution of 600 bags of maize flour and 300 bags of beans, as well as 1,000 first aid kits and medicines against malaria and cholera. 1,800 protective tarpaulins for tents are also on the way to offer shelter to the population. According to the experts on site, however, the needs are much greater than this and reconstruction will last several years.

Those wishing to help victims in Mozambique can make a donation via bank transfer to the account CCPL IBAN LU34 1111 0000 2020 0000, citing "Hurricane in Mozambique", or via the website www.caritas.lu
