Under the theme, "global thinking, local action", the eighth edition of the Cinéma du Sud festival will be screening nine films from 14 November to 14 December 2017, aimed at contributing to reflections on a changing world.

The proposed films and documentaries illustrate not only the link between national policies and actions and the global consequences, but also how citizens, individually and collectively, can act to contribute to a more just and equal world.

The Cinema du Sud festival is therefore offering one month full of cinema screenings followed by debates across the country. The nine screenings will take place in Dudelange, Esch, Bettembourg, Echternach and Luxembourg-Ville to allow the greatest number of people to participate in this reflection on different topics such as climate change, migration, food sovereignty, the women’s and children’s rights, prisoners, multinationals or citizen participation.

The opening night will be held on Tuesday 14 November 2017 at 19:30 at the NAC with Nothingwood by director Sonia Kronlund. The film tells the story of Salim Shaheen, a very popular actor-director in Afghanistan and a character bigger than life. It is a declaration of love to the cinema overflowing with eccentricity to face a difficult environment.

Through the selected films, the festival aims to illustrate that change is possible with stories that are painful, colourful, full of hope and love.

The festival is organised by a consortium of NGOs and networks, including: Support Association for Immigrant Workers (ASTI), Action Solidarité Tiers Monde (ASTM), Child Aid India and Nepal, Friends of the Tibet, ATTAC Luxembourg, Caritas, NGO Cooperation Circle, Committee for Peace in the Middle East (CPJPO), Luxembourg Red Cross, Christian Foundation for the Sahel, Follereau Foundation, Brothers of Men, Kindernothilfe Luxembourg, Klima- Bündnis, SOS Faim and SOS Children's Villages World.

Ticket prices correspond to the prices in force in the different cinemas with a reduced price of €1.50 for Kulturpass holders.
