Passions and Lamentations;

The Passions and Lamentations Festival, which will take place from 29 to 31 March 2018 at the Abbaye de Neumunster in Luxembourg-Grund, will draw the audience into 17th-century Venice, following in the footsteps of the sacred music of Antonio Caldara, Vivaldi and Pergolese with his Stabat Mater.

Thursday 29 March @ 20:00 @ Eglise Saint-Jean du Grund: Missa dolorosa and Stabat Mater (Antonio Caldara)
 
Born in Venice in 1670, Antonio Caldara was a singer and cellist at the Basilica San Marco, before being engaged as a composer at the Vienna court from 1716. His Stabat Mater, with dramatic and surprising colors, recalls his operas.

Friday 30 March @ 20:00 @ Cloister Lucien Wercollier: Airs de cour
 
Born in France towards the end of the sixteenth century, the "Airs de cour" developed immediately in England keeping its intimate character. Unhappy or lost love gives this music of rare beauty accents sometimes melancholic, sometimes plaintive.

Saturday 31 March @ 20:00 @ Eglise Saint-Jean du Grund: Stabat Mater (Giovanni Battista Pergolesi) & Concerto Grosso (Antonio Vivaldi)

On the occasion of the 340th anniversary of Vivaldi's birth, cantoLX reveals its extraordinary possibilities of expression. Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, contemporary of Vivaldi, created his own myth by disappearing at the age of 26, leaving the most sumptuous and poignant pages of the Italian Baroque repertoire: the Stabat Mater (1735).
